UPVC Replacement Door Handles
Over time the handles on your doors will wear down and need to be changed. When replacing them, it is crucial that the new handles match the dimensions of the previous handle.
The three measurements to check are the top screw's location, lever and key hole sizes. Use the size guide to assistance with this.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever or lever door handle is a contemporary handle that can be used on doors that are new or replacement. This type door handle is available in a wide range of designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this type of handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles of uPVC/Composite are made of robust materials and are perfect for doors with multi-point locks that require a strong design. The handles are inline and work with the same spindle as well as screw fixings, so they can be easily incorporated into doors made of uPVC/Composite, either new or old.
The handle can be placed and angled to suit all users. The handle has been tested for endurance up to 200,000 cycles. This allows for the assurance of the quality of the finish and performance of the handle over time. The lever that springs is adjustable to fit a wide range of locks. This is particularly useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is further back in the door. A shorter lever is an excellent option for doors where the latch could be activated by the thumb turn located on the inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad upvc door handle operates differently to the lever type handles on doors. These handles are operated by a single spindle or by two spindles inline or offset. They are usually used on UPVC double-glazed doors and come in a variety of styles and styles.
The handles are available in a variety of finishes including White chrome, and Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to corrosion. This provides the handle with a high performance and durability for the purpose it was designed for.
All of the UPVC lever pad designs come with the spindle and screws which allow them to be fitted on an existing or new uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixation centres permit a larger handle, which is typically an advantage when replacing a damaged or old multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have springs, which eliminate the problem of handles for doors that slide out of their horizontal position when not being used.
It is important to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when choosing a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement is often called the "handle centre" or "cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect to match the right handles.
Once you have the correct PZ size you will then need to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are in a suitable shape to fit the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you need for your doors. They are usually rectangular or round in shape, with an internal lever as well as an external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads that we offer are sprung, which means that they will return to their horizontal position after not being used, instead of hanging out and possibly sticking in the frame. This stops draughts and cold air from entering a property. Also, the majority of the UPVC lever pad handles are swivel, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks can be found on uPVC and other types of doors. They operate by using a key to unlock a cylinder that is then revealed with pins that can be aligned to those in the lock body and permitting them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders are available with up to six pins. External and internal doors require different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is vital. It is based on the amount of use your doors and handles will receive. External doors, for instance are required to be fitted with higher security cylinders, whereas doors inside can be secured using a standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders have extra features that can improve security, for instance anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
To make sure that the euro cylinder is the right size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder should be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn, in the event that one is present. It is best to do this with the lock in place however, when this isn't possible, you can remove it to take measurements. It is important to ensure that there is no extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it susceptible to lock snapping attacks.
The majority of modern cylinders have been made with bump and anti-drill features included in their design. These features are designed to minimize the chances of an attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in the opposite direction. This helps deflect the attack and protect your doors.
There are also cylinders constructed to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the break line of the lock and the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is much quicker and easier to achieve than opening a multipoint lock and leaves little evidence of a burglary, which can impede the insurance claim.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is positioned in the base of your door handle's backplate providing a sprung solution and returning your multipoint lock handles to their rest position after usage. Previously a lot of handles of this kind didn't have a spring built into them and without this they tend to droop or drop when the locking mechanism has been disengaged. This component is the most effective way to fix this problem. It also helps prevent your upvc door from becoming stuck in either the closed or open position as they are difficult to close manually.
These spring cassettes were designed to be used with sprung multipoint locks. They will not fit handles that aren't sprung, and you will have to cut a hole into your backplate for them to fit. (Please see upvc door handle replacement for a detailed diagram). These cassettes are a replacement for damaged or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They have a square cut-out that can accommodate an 8mm spindle, and are sold as a set.

These spring cassettes are a fantastic cost-effective solution to the issue of your door handles sagging. They are simple to install and can extend the life of your uPVC door.
